How long is this course?
This course has been designed with the idea that you’ll spend about a week on each section.
This allows time to download the PDFs and watch the videos; look at the exercises and schedule them in; and then get on with PLAYING! I feel a week per section is about right, allowing for:
- Busy lives.
- Plenty of time to try things out.
- Processing time; time to absorb ideas and ask questions.
- Time to record and share activities.
However…
One of the many amazing things about online learning is that you can fit lessons in around your own life, to suit your learning style, needs, and schedule. Once you are enrolled, you will have permanent access to published content. This means you can login and learn entirely at your own pace. In all my teaching my favourite mantra is “do what works for you” - we are not all the same, and while I try to share my own process as generously as possible, I recognise that what works for me might not work for you!
So, if what you like is running full-speed through everything in the first week, hurrah for your enthusiasm and, of course, go for it! Equally, if you're trying to fit the course in at a very busy or trying time for you, it's fine to take more than seven weeks with the content, and to spend longer on each of the sections before moving onto the next. Bottom line? The best pace for exploring Colour at Play is the one that works for you.
How do I adjust the subtitles?
All my videos come with Subtitles. These can be toggled on or off, and the size, style and language of the Subtitles can be adjusted using the settings at the bottom right hand corner of the video frame.
I edit the English subtitles myself, to ensure that they are as close to my natural speech as possible, and to check spellings. However, in this course, Teachable has provided me with the option to automate translations of my subtitles into German and French. I cannot amend these captions - they are automatically generated - but I hope they will prove useful for students whose first language is French or German.
To ensure you have the subtitles set as you'd like, and in your preferred language - or, indeed, toggled off - please adjust the relevant settings in the video player, circled in the photo below.
Where can I get help with Teachable?

The videos are not playing on my browser / I can't see the content
If you cannot see videos in published sections of the course, the problem is likely to be with your browser, privacy settings, Internet connection or media cache. Here are some steps you can try to enable you to access the course:
- Refresh your browser to load the most recent version of the page you are viewing.
- Check that the privacy settings on your browser are not blocking the website.
- Update your Internet Browser if needed. For best results, Teachable recommends using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
- Clear your browser cache to clear stored website data (you will need to run a search on "clear browser cache on [name of browser] for instructions on how to do this.
- Disable third-party browser extensions, as some have been known to cause interference with Teachable School sites.
- Test your internet speed and connection.
- Restart your computer to establish a clean slate.
- Switch devices to see if the problem you're experiencing can be duplicated.
- Add knitsonik.teachable.com to your list of safe sites, so that the browser knows it is OK to load content from this address.
Please note, I did not build the Teachable platform itself, and have a limited understanding of how it works from a technical perspective; if you have specific questions about your browser and your access to the course, you will get to a solution quickest by contacting the Teachable team directly, which you can do by raising a support request here: https://support.teachable.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
How do I share my work?
The Comments Sections under each part of the course and the Galleries of Progress are amazing spaces for sharing ideas, work and inspiration whenever you like. I check the Dropbox folder and the comments on this self-paced learning course a couple of times a week, so my responses are not immediate but you will hear from me in due course.
Whether you want to take each section step by step, or bound ahead and find everything you need in Comments Sections, Galleries of Progress or in other online spaces, you - and however you like to learn - are very welcome here!
I will add to this page as necessary, so if you have questions please pop them below so I can address them here.
Yours in the joy of learning together,
Felix
